LAWN CARE
Mowing
Idaho Asphalt Services, LLC offers both Commercial and Residential lawn mowing. Our mowing service includes line trimming, edging and blowing. We trim or edge along the foundation of your home or office, fence lines, trees, flower beds, sidewalks and curbs. Our policy is to keep all sidewalks, driveways, curbs, tree beds, window wells, and landscape beds free of grass clippings and other debris. Idaho Asphalt Services, LLC has a highly trained crew to properly care for your lawn.
Weed Control
Weed control is important to maintain an attractive landscape. If weeds are allowed to remain in your lawn and shrub beds they will not only multiply in your property but will also begin to spread to your neighbor’s property. This will eventually lead to more herbicides being used and a higher cost of maintenance. At Idaho Asphalt Services, LLC we take an aggressive approach to weed control that will utilize pre-emergent and post emergent applications but minimizes the overall amount of herbicides applied by using tried and true cultural practices. We will customize a weed control program that is tailored to your property’s needs.
Fertilization
Idaho Asphalt Services, LLC offers a year round fertilization program which is key along with consistent watering and mowing to achieve a beautiful and lush lawn. The soil in our urban setting is nutrient deficient and does not allow the turf to thrive on its own. Properly timed applications of balanced fertilizers will help the lawn stay green longer without excessive watering and thwart weed infestations.
Aeration
Core Aeration & Over-seeding
The soil that your turf grows in is constantly being compacted by foot traffic, irrigation, pets, and tree and shrub roots. This presses the soil more tightly as they grow. Soil that is too compact will cause your grass to stunt and thin-out and lead to dry patches in the lawn because water cannot penetrate and runs off instead. It will also stunt proper root development and eventually lead to a very unhealthy lawn. Frequent aeration of your turf will alleviate all the problems listed above and in addition will introduce natural organic matter to the soil as the grass blades and root mass in the aeration plugs break down and decompose.
Aeration combined with overseeding is an excellent method for an established lawn to relieve compaction and improve its density. We recommend aeration & overseeding once per season to all established lawns.
How Aeration Works
Aeration removes thousands of small cores of soil 1″ to 3″ in length from your lawn. These cores “melt” back into the lawn after a few rainfalls, mixing with whatever thatch exists on your lawn. The holes created by aeration catch fertilizer and water. Turf roots naturally grow toward these growth pockets and thicken in the process. Aeration holes also relieve pressure from compacted soils, letting oxygen and water move more freely into the root zone.
Turf Pest & Disease Control
Our licensed applicators are trained to identify and treat insects and diseases that can damage your turf such as billbugs and fungus. We pride ourselves in the use of environmentally friendly products and responsible application.
TREE AND SHRUBS SERVICES
Pruning
Proper pruning of your trees and shrubs is extremely important to the look and health of your property. At Idaho Asphalt Services, LLC, all of our pruning projects are overseen by an ISA certified arborist. A proper pruning program will include:
Proper pruning and shaping of your ornamental plants. Some plants thrive and look their best if they are sheared frequently and will not grow to their full potential if they are not. Some plants should never be sheared or headed back because they will sucker vigorously or die back. When this happens, it may be impossible to bring the plant back to health. Plants of this nature can be pruned by hand to keep them from outgrowing their place. Plants that flower must be pruned at the proper time or the buds that produce the flowers will be cut off and the plant will not flower the whole season. Our technicians can create a schedule that would best fit the needs of each individual plant.
Training of young shade trees. This is critical to ensure that the tree will develop into a strong healthy tree for many years to come. The tree should be pruned for proper branch spacing and structure. Branches that are too close together should be removed to stop them from growing together and becoming weak and diseased. Limbs that are not growing at the proper angle should be removed so that they won’t become a hazard or crowd out other limbs in the future. By training trees when they are young, you will avoid the future costs of extensive pruning in a larger tree and avoid the hazard of having weak and diseased limbs breaking and damaging property.
Annual pruning of mature trees. Dead and diseased limbs should be removed along with low limbs and limbs that are touching the walls and roof of the building. Hazard limbs should be identified and the risk mitigated. Our certified arborist will help to develop a program to help keep your mature trees vigorous.
Deep Root Fertilization
Trees and shrubs that are planted in our urban setting have to deal with soil that is often very deficient in the nutrients they need to thrive. Trees that are planted in poor quality soils will struggle to establish, grow poorly, attract pests and insects, develop chlorosis and ultimately die prematurely.
A proper fertilizer program will give your plants what they need to overcome these deficiencies, young trees will establish quickly and grow properly, mature trees will continue to thrive and resist pest infestation, and trees and shrubs that flower will produce large colorful blooms. Our regular fertilizer program includes two deep root feedings that are designed to give your plants what they need when they need it. The 1st application will prepare your plants to get off to a great start in the spring and help them to thrive through the heat of the summer. Our 2nd application will replenish the nutrients that were depleted in the summer and help your plants to develop stronger more active root systems. Trees that are showing signs of severe nutrient deficiencies will be given injections directly into the cambium to help them recover and look better quickly.
IRRIGATION
Winterization
In the Northwest, we experience freezing temperatures as early as October. Consequently, your irrigation system must be properly winterized to safeguard against freeze damage. Our winterization service includes:
- Turn water off to the sprinkler system and drain backflow system (if necessary)
- Where applicable, remove and/or drain pump, suction line, check valve and filter
- Deactivate controller and valves
- Clear all lines of water with compressed air, and, if applicable, open all manual drains and faucets
Because the timing of the arrival of freezing weather varies from season to season, we recommend winterization between October 10th and November 20th each year.
Start Ups
During April and May, we recommend our spring start-up service to get your sprinkler system up and running for the season. Winter ground heaving, heavy snowfall and snow removal can all take a toll on adjustments and function of your sprinkler heads. Our Spring Start-up service inspects for all the issues winter leaves behind. As well, from year to year your landscape changes, shrubs and trees grow and sometimes landscape is redesigned and changes. At the time of Spring Start-up, we review the design of your current irrigation system in order to recommend changes or enhancements that will ensure your irrigation system meet the needs of all of your lawn and plants in the most efficient manner. From a simple head change, to the addition of entire zones, our technicians will work with you to optimize turf and plant coverage.
We will check all the components to ensure your system is fully functional for the watering season. This service includes:
- Turn water on to the sprinkler system and inspect sprinkler plumbing.
- Where applicable, install filter.
- Activate the controller, set watering schedule and test all valves in the system. Install battery. (Battery sold separately)
- Inspect and adjust the system for proper coverage.
- Check for system leaks.
- Check function of all heads and nozzles.
- When time permits, make system repairs up to $100.00.
- Provide information and quote for all repairs needed exceeding $100.00
Scheduling your spring start-up depends on the weather conditions and your individual watering needs. Contact Idaho Asphalt Services, LLC early to schedule this service.
